Hakone luggage storage: send your extra suitcase from the hotel and enjoy the lake with a smaller bag.

Hakone Luggage Storage: Enjoy the Mountains with Less

Make room for Hakone’s mountain trains, lake views and an unhurried hotel stay. With Silk Crane, send the spare suitcase from your hotel into storage, travel with what you need for Hakone, and arrange delivery when those belongings are needed later in Japan.

A mountain break between city stays

Picture several nights in Tokyo followed by a short Hakone stay and a longer visit farther west. Your extra suitcase contains shopping and clothing for later. You arrange shipment from the Tokyo hotel to Silk Crane and pack a smaller bag for the mountain break.

You can enjoy a lake walk, change transport and settle into the hotel without moving that spare case through every connection. Arrange its delivery to a later hotel before you need it again, allowing time for shipping.

Send the suitcase that can skip this stage

Silk Crane is useful when the extra belongings are for another part of the holiday. Book your Hakone storage plan, send from the hotel and keep the clothes and essentials you need during this stretch. You do not have to build the route around returning to a particular locker.

For a suitcase you need tonight, consider the hotel’s own arrangements or local delivery. For a bag you need again after lunch, local holding may be the simpler choice. Match the luggage plan to when the belongings are needed.

Use local holding around the route you will actually take

The official Hakone hands-free guide includes Hakone-Yumoto and Gora station locker maps. Both stations also list temporary luggage holding. Check fit, current access and the collection deadline before leaving a case.

A circular sightseeing route can finish somewhere different from its starting point. Before choosing a locker, decide whether you will return through the same station, head straight to the hotel or leave Hakone another way. A locker is convenient only if retrieving the suitcase fits the rest of the day.

Keep the local hotel-delivery deadline in view

The Hakone Luggage Transport Service carries bags between Hakone-Yumoto Station and its listed partner hotels. The current operator page gives outbound station reception as 8:30–12:00, with hotel pickup after 15:00. Check that your hotel is on the list before relying on it.

For the return direction, arrange it at the hotel front desk by 10:00; station pickup is listed as 13:30–18:30. Allow time for counter processing and check current service notices. This local delivery service is separate from Silk Crane’s shipped storage for later in the trip.

Deal with the large case before the ropeway

Hakone’s official transport FAQ says large luggage cannot be taken on the ropeway. It points travelers to station lockers or paid station-office holding. Sort out the case before the boarding point rather than assuming you can take it to Owakudani first.

Keep a light layer, water, documents and the things you need during the outing in the small bag. Check current operating information before committing to a sequence of trains, cable car, ropeway and lake travel; a luggage collection detour becomes harder when the route changes.

Send the spare suitcase and plan its return

Book storage, follow the sending instructions and ask your hotel front desk to help arrange the shipment. Keep medicine, documents and the belongings you need during shipping with you. Confirm that your later hotel can receive the case, then plan your storage and delivery dates.

Silk Crane receives shipped belongings for monthly or annual storage and later delivery. Shipping is charged separately; the storage and shipping cost guide explains the distinction. Arrange delivery in advance rather than expecting immediate collection at the station or attraction.
