Owakudani luggage storage: send spare luggage from your hotel and enjoy the volcanic valley viewpoint with a small bag.

Owakudani Luggage Storage: Plan a Lighter Hakone Visit

Enjoy Owakudani’s mountain views without making the spare suitcase part of the outing. With Silk Crane, send extra luggage from your hotel into storage, keep a small bag for Hakone, and arrange delivery of those belongings when you need them later.

A mountain viewpoint with only the day’s essentials

Imagine a Hakone break between longer stays in Japan. Your spare suitcase holds purchases and clothing for later, so you arrange shipment from the hotel to Silk Crane and keep a compact bag for this stretch.

At Owakudani, you can enjoy the designated viewpoints without managing that extra case. After the mountain stay, continue with the smaller bag and arrange delivery of the stored suitcase to a later hotel before those belongings are needed.

Leave the extra case out of the Hakone route

If the suitcase is for another part of the holiday, arrange Silk Crane storage before Owakudani and send it from your hotel. Keep the overnight clothes and daily essentials you will need during shipping.

The benefit extends beyond the viewpoint: the extra case stays out of the station transfers and later collection detour. Silk Crane requires planned shipment and delivery; it is not an immediate counter at Owakudani.

Large luggage needs a plan before the ropeway

The Hakone transport FAQ explicitly says large luggage cannot be taken on the ropeway. Arrange local holding at the boarding end, agreed hotel arrangements or shipment of the spare case before that connection.

Do not treat Owakudani’s lockers as permission to bring a large suitcase on the ropeway to reach them. If you arrive by another form of transport, confirm its luggage arrangements separately and check the storage option you intend to use.

Lockers and station-office holding

The official Owakudani station guide lists coin lockers. The operator’s Japanese luggage FAQ also lists paid station-office holding across ropeway stations. Ask staff about the current charge, acceptance and collection deadline rather than assuming unlimited capacity.

For any locker, check the actual compartment dimensions, access and payment method. Keep the receipt or code and note the station name. A bag left at Sounzan or Togendai still needs collection at that station; it does not move along the ropeway with your ticket.

Keep the viewpoint visit and collection route together

Owakudani has separate ropeway directions toward Sounzan and toward Ubako/Togendai. Decide where you will finish before choosing a storage location. A day continuing to Lake Ashi is different from an outing that returns toward Gora.

Check current Hakone operating information before setting off, and follow current visitor-access signs at the site. Allow time to collect stored bags before the facility closes, including when the planned route changes. Stay on the designated visitor routes and keep the small bag light enough for the outing.

Send the spare suitcase and plan its return

Book storage, follow the sending instructions and ask your hotel front desk to help arrange the shipment. Keep medicine, documents and the belongings you need during shipping with you. Confirm that your later hotel can receive the case, then plan your storage and delivery dates.

Silk Crane receives shipped belongings for monthly or annual storage and later delivery. Shipping is charged separately; the storage and shipping cost guide explains the distinction. Arrange delivery in advance rather than expecting immediate collection at the station or attraction.

Questions before you go

Can I take a large suitcase on the Hakone Ropeway?

The operator’s FAQ says no. Arrange luggage storage or hotel arrangements before boarding rather than planning to solve it after reaching Owakudani.

Does Owakudani have coin lockers?

The official station guide lists them. Check fit, availability and access at the bank; this does not change the ropeway’s large-luggage rule.

Can ropeway station staff hold bags?

The operator lists paid station-office holding. Ask about current acceptance, capacity, charges and the last collection time for the particular station.

How can Silk Crane help if I continue beyond Hakone?

Send spare belongings from your hotel into storage before the mountain stage. Continue with what you need and arrange delivery to a later hotel, leaving time for shipping.
