Yokohama Chinatown Luggage Storage: Explore With Less to Carry
Share
Make time for Chinatown lunch, small shops and a harbor stroll. With Silk Crane, send extra luggage from your hotel front desk or a convenience store into monthly or annual storage, then arrange delivery to a later hotel. Shipping is charged separately.
For bags you need again today, lockers at Motomachi-Chukagai or Ishikawacho, hotel holding or Yamato’s Chinatown luggage counter can suit different collection routes.
The useful question is where you want to finish your day. Choose storage you can collect on that route, rather than making a special trip back across Yokohama. If you are leaving a suitcase for weeks, explore Silk Crane’s monthly and annual storage. Shipping is charged separately.
Picture a Chinatown afternoon before a longer trip

Imagine checking out in Yokohama with three weeks in Japan still ahead. You have signed up for Silk Crane and received the sending instructions. Already out with a suitcase, you send it from a convenience store, keeping clothes and essentials for the next stops and shipping time.
Enjoy lunch beneath Chinatown’s gates, browse the shops and continue toward the harbor. Arrange delivery to a later hotel, so the next train does not require a detour back for that suitcase. A bag needed again tonight belongs in local short-stay holding instead.
Choose storage around your Chinatown visit
- Lunch before your next train: a locker near your arrival or departure route can keep collection simple.
- Sightseeing before check-in or after checkout: ask your hotel whether it can hold your bag and when you need to collect it.
- A suitcase that will not fit a locker: check a luggage counter’s acceptance rules before walking over with it.
- Several weeks without the extra bag: send it into planned storage and arrange delivery to a later hotel.
Chinatown’s official visitor information identifies both Motomachi-Chukagai and JR Ishikawacho as nearby rail approaches. These are separate stations. Yokohama Station is another interchange; use our Yokohama Station locker guide when leaving your suitcase there fits the whole day.
Motomachi-Chukagai Station lockers
The railway lists IC-operated lockers outside the Chinatown-side gates on B1F. On the Motomachi side, it lists lockers both inside and outside the gates on 1F. That distinction matters: choose a location you can return to without an unexpected trip through the ticket gates.
Check the official station map and railway locker information. The operator’s inventory is dated 16 April 2026. Some IC-operated lockers accept only transport IC cards, while key-operated lockers take cash; check your machine’s payment options, price and collection rules.
A “large” label is not a fit guarantee. Measure the packed suitcase including wheels and handles, compare the compartment dimensions, and keep the collection card, key or code with you.
Arriving through JR Ishikawacho
JR East lists coin lockers at Ishikawacho. Check the station layout and the machines when you arrive for the current size, price and payment choices.
If you are returning by JR, keeping your suitcase near Ishikawacho may make collection easier. If your afternoon ends near Motomachi-Chukagai or at your hotel, think through that return journey before paying. Take a photo of the locker number and surroundings so you can find the same place later.
A luggage counter in Chinatown
Yamato lists its Yokohama Chinatown Center at 93-3 Yamashita-cho, Naka-ku, on the first floor. Its baggage-storage price list dated 8 September 2026 gives ¥800 per item, with collection by 7pm the same day.
This can be worth checking when you prefer a counter or your suitcase does not fit the available lockers. Use Yamato’s official counter list and current baggage-storage price sheet before visiting. Confirm opening hours and whether the counter can accept your bag; a listed service is not a reservation. This is Yamato’s local service, separate from Silk Crane storage.
Local options checked 26 September 2026. Prices, access and availability can change.
Leave room for lunch, shopping and the waterfront
Start with the meal or shops you most want to visit, then decide whether to continue toward Yamashita Park or browse Motomachi. Keep your passport, medication and anything you need that day in your smaller bag. Avoid buying more than you want to carry before your onward train.
For local storage, set a collection reminder before settling into a long meal. If you plan to leave by a different station, include the walk back to your locker in the afternoon. Our Yokohama city guide connects these stops with the wider trip.
When the suitcase can skip the next part of Japan
Silk Crane is useful when Chinatown is one stop on a longer itinerary and you do not need the whole suitcase every day. Sign up online, pack the belongings you can leave out of the trip, and send them from your hotel or a convenience store using your storage instructions. There is no Silk Crane walk-in luggage counter in Chinatown.
Arrange delivery to a later hotel in Japan, confirm it can receive the suitcase and allow time for shipping. The stored-luggage delivery guide explains the next step. Monthly and annual storage fees are separate from shipping. If you simply need the suitcase at your next hotel, direct forwarding may suit the trip better.
Questions before leaving your suitcase
Where can I leave luggage while visiting Yokohama Chinatown?
Start with lockers at Motomachi-Chukagai or Ishikawacho, hotel holding if available, or Yamato’s Chinatown Center. Choose around where you will collect the bag and check the price, size and deadline before leaving it.
Are Ishikawacho and Motomachi-Chukagai the same station?
No. Ishikawacho is a JR station; Motomachi-Chukagai is on the Minatomirai Line. Keep the station name, gate area and locker number together so your return route is clear.
What if my suitcase is too large or the lockers are full?
Ask your hotel about holding it or check whether a local luggage counter can accept it. Measure wheels and handles as well as the case itself; another locker marked “large” may still be too narrow.
Can I collect my bag after dinner in Chinatown?
Choose storage with a collection window that fits your meal. Yamato’s checked Chinatown listing requires same-day collection by 7pm; station lockers have their own access and storage rules. Do not assume every option remains accessible late at night.
Can Silk Crane store my bag just while I have lunch?
For a few hours with same-day collection, choose local storage or hotel holding. Silk Crane’s monthly and annual storage involves shipping and suits belongings you can travel without for a longer part of your Japan trip.
