Sendai Station luggage storage: a traveler leaves a suitcase with hotel staff and continues by train with a small backpack.

Sendai Station Luggage Storage: Lockers and Baggage Counters

Take the next train from Sendai with the bag you need. With Silk Crane’s monthly and annual storage, send surplus belongings from your hotel front desk or a convenience store before a longer journey and arrange delivery later. That leaves fewer bags to manage through the station and no return trip to a locker. Shipping is charged separately.

Sendai Station has luggage lockers on several levels and separate baggage-counter services. The important detail is the exact place: the third-floor BAGGAGE STORAGE+ counter and the second-floor TA-Q-BIN counter have different hours and terms.

Picture an easier departure from Sendai

Imagine leaving your Sendai hotel with several weeks of travel still ahead. The suitcase contains shopping and spare clothes, while a small backpack holds what you need now. After signing up with Silk Crane, send the larger bag from the hotel under your sending instructions.

You can head to the station and continue with the smaller bag. Arrange delivery of the stored suitcase to a later hotel before you need it. If today is only a short sightseeing break, choose a local locker or counter and return within its collection hours.

If you are already out with the packed suitcase, you can send it from a convenience store before continuing your departure from Sendai. Keep the clothes, documents and everyday essentials you need during shipping with you.

A convenience-store stop, then a lighter day

Already out with a suitcase you will not need for the next part of the trip? Picture sending it from a convenience store, then carrying on with a small bag. Sign up for Silk Crane, follow the supplied sending instructions, keep your essentials during shipping and arrange delivery to a later hotel in Japan.

Find the right locker level

Use JR East’s Sendai locker guide with the official station map. Locker areas include the third-floor Shinkansen level, the second-floor conventional-train concourse and the first-floor west-exit area.

Note whether your locker is inside or outside ticket gates. Payment and access vary by bank, and some modern lockers are cashless. Check the displayed terms, photograph the locker number and nearby landmark, and leave time to reach your departure platform after collection.

Third floor: BAGGAGE STORAGE+

The JR East Logistics’ baggage-storage guide places BAGGAGE STORAGE+ beside the reserved-seat ticket machines on the third floor. The checked hours are 9:30–19:00; bags cannot be collected outside operating hours.

The current size bands range from ¥500 to ¥2,000 per item, with a 30 kg weight limit. The size calculation uses the total of length, width and height. Overnight use is charged for each day, and additional bags are separate items. Check the operator’s exact band and acceptance terms for your packed bag.

Second floor: a different service and deadline

Sendai tourism’s TA-Q-BIN counter listing lists ¥800 per item, acceptance from 9:00 to 18:00 and same-day collection by 18:30. Its overall opening hours run later, so do not mistake the closing time for the luggage collection deadline.

Keep the counter name and floor with your receipt. If your visit ends late, choose an arrangement whose actual collection rules fit the plan. A late return to the wrong desk can leave you without the bag for your train.

For Matsushima or the next hotel

Read our Matsushima luggage guide before leaving on a bay excursion. If you return to Sendai for an onward train, allow time for both the local journey and luggage collection. Have a hotel-holding fallback if suitable lockers and counter space are unavailable.

Some station services offer hotel delivery under separate conditions. Confirm the exact hotel, booking requirements and cutoff; a normal locker does not automatically forward your bag. The Sendai city luggage guide helps choose between local holding, direct forwarding and longer storage.

Questions before you leave your bag

Where are Sendai Station coin lockers?

JR East’s guide maps lockers across the third floor, second floor, first-floor west-exit area and basement. Choose a bank by your collection route and check its individual rules.

Where is BAGGAGE STORAGE+ at Sendai Station?

The current operator guide places it on the third floor beside reserved-seat ticket machines. It lists hours of 9:30–19:00; check again before travel.

Can I collect from the second-floor counter at 19:00?

The tourism listing gives a same-day luggage collection deadline of 18:30, despite later overall opening hours. Confirm directly if your schedule is close to that deadline.

Does an overnight counter stay cost the same as a single day?

No. BAGGAGE STORAGE+ charges by item for each day used. Check the full duration and size band before leaving the bag.
