Find the tourist office near the bus center
The Takachiho tourist information office is about a minute’s walk from the bus center, on the first floor of the tourism association’s office. Its current listing gives counter holding at ¥500 per piece and cash-only lockers in three sizes.
This is a nearby visitor office, not a Silk Crane counter. Check that an available locker fits your bag or ask the desk about counter holding. Keep travel documents and valuables with you, and note exactly where to return.
Collect before the next bus or evening plans
The office lists opening hours of 8:30–19:00. Confirm the collection deadline and locker access conditions when you leave your bag; an office-hours listing does not establish overnight or round-the-clock locker access.
Evening kagura at Takachiho Shrine starts after the office’s listed closing time. Collect first or arrange holding with your hotel. Work back from the next bus with enough time for collection and the walk to the boarding point.
Check the Aso connection for your date
Sanko’s Aso–Takachiho service connects Aso and Takachiho. The operator describes a partly reservable service, with some sections excluded from reservations. Check the rules for your exact boarding and alighting stops.

Choose the outing before choosing the holding point
The gorge, Takachiho Shrine and Amano Iwato are separate visits. The tourism association’s local travel advice notes limited local bus services and the downhill journey toward the gorge, followed by an uphill return.
Ask the information desk about the day’s local transport and allow time to return for your bag. If your hotel is the final stop, holding there may fit better than a separate trip back to the bus-center area.

Are the listed lockers inside the bus center?
The tourism association lists lockers at its nearby tourist information office. Follow the office location, rather than assuming the bus building has the same service.
Can I leave a bag until after kagura?
Do not assume so. The office lists a 19:00 closing time; collect before the performance or arrange hotel holding.
