Aso Station journey: hotel staff take the suitcase before the traveler walks through a rural station with a small shoulder bag.

Aso Station Luggage Storage: Start the Mountain Journey Lighter

Start the Aso part of your trip with less to move from train to bus. Send the spare suitcase from your hotel to Silk Crane, keep a smaller bag for these days and arrange delivery when you need the case again. Monthly and annual storage keeps extra belongings out of the mountain journey. Shipping is charged separately.

Picture an Aso arrival between longer hotel stays

Imagine traveling from Kumamoto to Aso with more of Kyushu still ahead. Your extra suitcase holds shopping and clothes for the final city stay. Send it from your hotel to Silk Crane and keep the next few days’ belongings in a compact travel bag.

Arrive at Aso Station, settle a bag needed tonight if necessary and head toward the grasslands with a small day bag. Arrange delivery of the stored suitcase to the later hotel in advance. The spare case stays out of the train-to-bus transfer and the return queue.

Check the locker before joining the bus queue

JR Kyushu’s Aso Station page lists coin lockers. On arrival, check that a free compartment fits the whole bag, including its wheels and handles. Read the payment, storage-period and collection instructions on that locker.

Record the locker’s location and keep its key or code with you. The ticket office’s opening hours do not establish the locker’s access hours. Ask about anything unclear before leaving for a mountain outing.

Use nearby holding for a suitcase needed today

Michi no Eki Aso’s baggage service accepts bags at its tourist information counter. Its published hours are 9:00–18:00, with a charge of ¥1,000 per piece and no overnight holding. Confirm the day’s collection deadline when leaving the case.

Michi no Eki Aso is a separate roadside visitor facility near the railway station, not a JR locker bank. Keep documents, medicine and valuables with you. If your stay ends at an Aso hotel, ask whether holding there would fit your route better.

Separate the mountain bus from crater access

Sanko’s Aso Station–Kusasenri–Asosanjo Terminal route does not take reservations; boarding is first come, first served within capacity. Give yourself time for a busy departure and check the return before leaving the station area.

The Aso and Kusasenri visitor guide covers the outing itself. The bus to Asosanjo Terminal is separate from the crater shuttle. As checked on 29 September 2026, official crater restrictions prohibit entry within about one kilometre of the crater, and the crater shuttle operator reports suspension. Do not treat a mountain bus journey as a promise of crater access.

Leave room for collection before the next train

Work backward from your onward departure: the bus back, the walk to the exact locker or counter, collection and the platform. A counter closes on its own schedule even if trains run later. Choose an earlier return when the connection would be tight.

If you left the suitcase in Kumamoto, it is still there. The Kumamoto Station luggage guide helps with that alternative. Choose local holding around the route you will actually complete.

Questions before your visit

Does Aso Station have lockers?

JR Kyushu lists coin lockers. Check size, availability and collection instructions at the bank you use.

Can Michi no Eki Aso keep my suitcase overnight?

Its published service is same-day only. Collect during the agreed opening period.

Does the Aso mountain bus go straight into the crater?

The station bus and crater shuttle are separate services. Check current restrictions; crater access and the shuttle were closed when this guide was checked on 29 September 2026.

Can I collect a Silk Crane bag at Aso Station?

Silk Crane provides shipped storage and planned later delivery. Arrange delivery to a later hotel; use local holding for a bag needed today.

Send the extra suitcase and enjoy what comes next

Choose your Silk Crane storage plan, follow the sending instructions and ask your hotel front desk to help arrange shipment. Monthly and annual storage lets shopping and spare clothes skip the next journeys, with delivery arranged when you need them again. Shipping is charged separately.

Keep your documents, medicine and clothes for the coming days with you. Confirm that your later hotel can receive the suitcase and allow time for delivery. The extra case can stay out of the local sightseeing route.
