A Tokyo morning before travelling with a smaller bag

Imagine several nights near Shimbashi before a week of smaller hotels around Japan. You sign up for Silk Crane and follow the supplied sending instructions, sending the spare suitcase from your hotel front desk. Keep the clothes, documents and essentials needed during shipping, and arrange delivery to your final hotel.

Already out after checkout with the packed case? A convenience store can be your sending point. Once the extra luggage is on its way to storage, enjoy Ginza or take the Yurikamome towards the waterfront with a small bag, without a return journey to collect that suitcase.

Where to leave luggage at Shimbashi Station today

For a suitcase needed again today, choose a locker or agreed local holding with a collection route that fits your plans. Shimbashi has several railway areas, so the operator and exit matter as much as the station name.

  • JR Shimbashi: JR East lists coin lockers. Use its station map and the signs at the bank to record the gate side.
  • Toei Asakusa Line: the Toei locker directory lists a bank on B1 outside the gates, in the passage towards Exit A3. It includes large, medium and standard compartments.
  • Tokyo Metro Ginza Line: the Metro facilities guide lists coin lockers and Tokyo Metlocker PLUS near Exit 3. The latter has reservation and hotel-delivery features with separate terms; those features do not apply to every station locker.

Toei's listed large compartments measure 85.6 cm high, 34.2 cm wide and 66.3 cm deep. Measure the whole case, including wheels and handles, and check the actual bank's vacancy, price and collection instructions. A listed large compartment is not a promise that your suitcase will fit or that one is empty.

If the case does not fit, ask your hotel about holding it or check a bookable nearby storage location's size rules and collection hours. Choose the actual address before paying, particularly if your evening ends away from Shimbashi.

Keep JR, the subway and Yurikamome separate

Shimbashi is also written Shinbashi; the Japanese name is 新橋. Within the station area, JR, Tokyo Metro's Ginza Line, Toei's Asakusa Line and Yurikamome have their own gates. Metro Exit 3 and Toei Exit A3 are different labels: save the operator as well as the number.

For the waterfront, use the Yurikamome Shimbashi station guide. A bag left near a subway gate will still need collection there before you board your next train; do not treat all the railways as one locker hall. Nearby Shiodome is a separate station name.

Photograph the locker number and nearest gate sign. Note whether the bank is inside a ticketed area and how you will regain access. Allow the collection walk before an airport or onward train, and check the destination of the actual service you board.

Keep sightseeing plans in the separate Ginza shopping guide and Odaiba guide. Continuing through Toyosu? The Toyosu Station guide covers that connection.

Shimbashi luggage storage questions

Does Shimbashi Station have large luggage lockers?

Yes. Toei lists large compartments outside its Asakusa Line gates on B1 towards Exit A3. Check the actual case dimensions and vacancy before paying. JR and Tokyo Metro also list locker facilities in their respective station areas.

Are Shimbashi and Shinbashi the same place?

These are alternative English spellings of 新橋. Save the railway and gate as well as the station name when leaving a bag.

Can I leave luggage before visiting Tsukiji or Ginza?

Choose local holding that opens in time for your outing and gives you time to return before collection closes. For the market's own arrangements, see the Tsukiji Outer Market luggage guide.

Can I send the spare suitcase after checking out?
