From the slopes to an evening in Sapporo

Picture a couple finishing a Hokkaido ski holiday before continuing south through Japan. Their spare suitcase holds clothing and purchases they will not need until the final Tokyo stay. They sign up for Silk Crane and send it from their hotel front desk using the supplied instructions.
They keep warm layers, documents, medicine and everything needed during shipping. A winter walk through Odori Park and dinner in Sapporo are easier with small bags. Delivery to the later hotel is arranged ahead. If they also send skis or a snowboard, the hotel front desk is the sending point for that equipment; convenience stores do not accept those long items.
A convenience-store stop, then a lighter day
Already out with a suitcase you will not need for the next part of the trip? Picture sending it from a convenience store, then carrying on with a small bag. Sign up for Silk Crane, follow the supplied sending instructions, keep your essentials during shipping and arrange delivery to a later hotel in Japan.

1. Silk Crane: send the bag and arrange later delivery
Choose Silk Crane when your extra luggage can skip part of the journey. Send from your hotel front desk or a convenience store, keep a smaller bag and arrange delivery when you want the stored belongings again. There is no trip to a Silk Crane storage location or return to the same locker.
Cost: a monthly or annual plan, plus separate shipping. Compare the current storage plans together with sending and return-delivery costs. Silk Crane has no walk-in counter at Sapporo Station and does not provide immediate retrieval or same-day local holding.
Sign up before sending and follow the supplied instructions. Keep documents, medicine and everything needed during shipping with you. The hotel and airport delivery guide explains how to plan the return. If you simply need the suitcase at your next hotel soon, direct forwarding may be the simpler choice.
2. JR lockers: choose around your train route
JR Hokkaido’s locker directory lists Sapporo charges of ¥400 small, ¥500 medium and ¥700–800 large. The normal limit is three days including deposit day. Check the selected bank’s current rules and compartment dimensions.
Save the locker number and surrounding signs before leaving. Keep the receipt or payment card ready for collection, and leave time to reach your train after retrieving the case.
Station construction can change the approach to a locker bank. Follow current signs rather than an old saved photograph. For skiing equipment, check the actual specialist locker dimensions; a large suitcase compartment is not automatically a ski locker.
3. Subway lockers: a separate 12-hour charging system
The subway operator’s Sapporo locker map shows the Namboku and Toho line banks. Charges vary by compartment and recur every 12 hours, with a 72-hour maximum. Banks A and E are cashless-only.
Photograph the bank letter and nearby exit sign. JR Sapporo and subway Sapporo are connected, but the same station name does not mean the locker is beside your next platform. Check access hours before planning late collection.
4. Yamato: a counter south of the station
Yamato’s current holding-price list gives ¥1,000 per item at the Sapporo Station Center, with same-day collection by 19:30. Its counter directory places it on Sun Memorial Building 1F, Kita 3-jo Nishi 1-chome.
Walking directions from Sapporo Station to Yamato — about 6 minutes / 450 m from Sapporo Station’s map point. This is a street-side counter, so include the walk back in your plans. Ask about last acceptance and your particular bag before leaving it.
5. Daimaru: cashless lockers for a shopping stop
The Daimaru Sapporo locker guide and location diagram lists ordinary lockers at the 1F southwest entrance: ¥300 small or ¥500 large, available 10:00–20:00, same day only. Payment is by supported code payment or contactless credit card, not cash.
The large compartment measures 84 cm high × 40 cm wide × 58 cm deep. Compare that with your packed suitcase, including wheels and handles. The department store’s refrigerated food lockers are a different facility.
Send before the station stop
Your hotel front desk or a convenience store can be the starting point for Silk Crane storage. Sign up first and use the supplied sending instructions, then carry only what you need during shipping.
For a nearby parcel counter, use Yamato’s Sapporo Station Center map pin to locate the office described above and confirm dispatch timing with staff. The ¥1,000 local-holding charge is not the price of shipping to Silk Crane. Sending skis or a snowboard? Arrange that handoff at your hotel front desk.
Questions before choosing
Are JR and subway lockers charged the same way?
Do not assume so. The subway operator specifies 12-hour charging, while JR lockers have their own posted terms. Read the bank’s price and charging boundary before depositing.
Which choice avoids another trip to Sapporo Station?
Silk Crane lets you send belongings into storage and arrange delivery to a later stop. Local holding means returning to the chosen counter or locker. Keep everything needed during shipping with you.
