Itsukushima Shrine Luggage Storage: Enjoy the Waterfront
Share
Give Miyajima’s shrine corridors and waterfront your attention, with less to carry. Silk Crane lets you send the extra suitcase from your hotel into monthly or annual storage and arrange delivery to a later stop. Keep a smaller bag for the island; shipping is charged separately.
Choose storage for your Miyajima trip
Picture a waterfront morning without the extra case
Imagine an island visit in the middle of a longer Japan itinerary. You send shopping and spare clothes from your Hiroshima hotel to Silk Crane, keeping your camera, daily essentials and the clothes you will use during the next stops.
On Miyajima, walk along the waterfront and pause for the offshore torii before entering the shrine. The large case stays out of the outing and the following journeys. Arrange its delivery ahead of your later hotel stay.

Settle the suitcase before the shrine approach
For an island overnight stay, ask your accommodation about luggage holding before you head to the shrine. For a day trip, choose a collection point along your return route: your Hiroshima hotel, mainland Miyajimaguchi or the island terminal.
The tourism association’s locker guide places island lockers to the right after the ferry exit, beyond the tourist-information area. Check compartment size and collection access at the bank. For the mainland alternative, use our Miyajimaguchi guide.
Keep only the small bag needed for the visit. Do not treat a shrine ticket as a promise of suitcase holding; make that arrangement before joining the shrine approach.
Keep shrine admission separate from a waterfront walk
The official shrine admission guide lists a usual 06:30 opening, with special New Year arrangements. Closing is 18:00 from March 1 to October 14, 17:30 from October 15 through November and from January 4 through February, and 17:00 in December. Check current notices for your date.
The shrine advises comfortable shoes because its wooden corridors have gaps between the floorboards. Take care with your bag as you pass other visitors. The Treasure Hall and Senjokaku have separate hours; a waterfront walk does not mean every building remains open.
Choose a few stops you want to enjoy, then leave time for the return to your locker or hotel. If you continue to Daisho-in or Mount Misen, allow a separate part of the day rather than treating them as quick additions before bag collection.
Send the extra case and arrange its return
Book your storage plan and follow the sending instructions. Ask your hotel front desk to help arrange the shipment, or use a convenience store that accepts it or a Yamato service center. Keep documents, medicine and everything needed during shipping with you.
Silk Crane receives shipped belongings for monthly or annual storage and later delivery. Shipping is charged separately. Before sending, confirm that your later hotel can receive the case and plan your luggage delivery dates around Miyajima. The storage and shipping cost guide explains the separate charges.
Questions before you go
Can I rely on suitcase storage at Itsukushima Shrine?
Arrange hotel or terminal holding before the visit, so your shrine visit does not depend on finding space for a suitcase.
Where are the island ferry-terminal lockers?
The tourism association directs arriving passengers right after the ferry exit, past the tourist-information area. Follow the signs and the bank’s collection instructions.
Is the shrine open as late as the waterfront?
The shrine has seasonal admission hours. Nearby buildings have their own schedules, separate from walking along the waterfront.
Should I visit the shrine and Mount Misen with the same small bag?
Keep the suitcase at your chosen holding point, but pack separately for a mountain outing, including water and suitable walking gear. Allow enough time for the mountain return and collection.
