A canal walk between Kyoto stays and the next city
Imagine sending the extra suitcase from your Kyoto hotel to Silk Crane before a week of further travel. Your hotel agrees to hold the smaller bag needed for tonight, leaving you free to take just your everyday things towards Ginkaku-ji.
After the garden visit, you can stroll beside the canal and decide whether to continue towards Nanzen-ji. Plan collection of the locally held bag around that choice, and arrange the stored suitcase’s delivery to the later hotel where you need it again.

Use one bag plan for the connected outing
Ginkaku-ji’s visitor FAQ and the city’s Philosopher’s Path guide do not establish a shared luggage-holding service for the outing. Arrange holding with your accommodation or a suitable station facility before setting out.
If you leave a case near the start, include the trip back even when you finish at the other end of the walk. A hotel base can be more convenient when your evening plans return there. Keep water, weather protection and anything needed until collection in a small bag.
Choose a direction, then choose the length
Kyoto City’s Ginkaku-ji and Philosopher’s Path access guide sets out approaches using rail with a bus or walking connection. Start near Ginkaku-ji for the temple and a southward canal walk, or plan a northward outing from the Keage side if the walking distance suits you.
The Philosopher’s Path follows the canal towards Nyakuoji Bridge. Nanzen-ji is a further walk beyond that section, with its own visit to allow for. You can enjoy part of the route without committing to every temple. Before extending the outing, check the remaining walk, the return transport and your bag collection time.
Send the extra case and arrange its return
Book your storage plan and follow the sending instructions. Ask your hotel front desk to help arrange the shipment, or use a convenience store that accepts it or a Yamato service center. Keep documents, medicine and everything needed during shipping with you.
Silk Crane receives shipped belongings for monthly or annual storage and later delivery. Shipping is charged separately. Before sending, confirm that your later hotel can receive the case and plan your luggage delivery dates around Kyoto. The storage and shipping cost guide explains the separate charges.
Questions before you go
Does one locker serve the whole Philosopher’s Path?
No shared holding service is established by the official information reviewed here. Choose your hotel or a documented station facility as a collection base.
Is Nanzen-ji directly part of the canal path?
It is a further continuation beyond the southern canal section. Allow separate walking and visiting time if you add it.
Must I walk the full route?
No. Choose the temple and canal section that suit your day, then plan transport and collection around that shorter outing.
How does Silk Crane fit a Kyoto sightseeing trip?
Send spare clothing and shopping from your hotel into storage, keep what you need for the next part of your journey and arrange delivery to a later hotel. Allow shipping time in both directions. For a bag needed again today, arrange local holding.
