Beppu Ropeway and Mount Tsurumi: Visit with Less Luggage
Share
Let the view above Beppu Bay be the focus of your mountain outing. Send the spare suitcase from your hotel to Silk Crane, take a smaller bag up Mount Tsurumi and arrange delivery to a later hotel. Monthly and annual storage keeps shopping and extra clothes off this journey and the stops that follow. Shipping is charged separately.
Picture a mountain stop between onsen stays
Imagine a few nights in Beppu followed by an inn stay in Yufuin. A second suitcase holds purchases and clothes for the final part of Japan. Send it from your Beppu hotel to Silk Crane and keep enough for the coming days in a smaller travel bag.
Take a shoulder bag to Mount Tsurumi, enjoy the ropeway ride and pause above the bay. Arrange delivery of the stored case to a later hotel in advance. If you continue toward Yufuin afterward, the spare case does not need a collection detour back through Beppu.

Settle today’s bag before the ascent
The ropeway’s operator-supervised visitor FAQ confirms coin lockers and paid holding at the station for luggage that will not fit. Ask staff about your packed case, the charge and collection deadline before you ride.
For a day that starts and finishes in central Beppu, hotel holding or the Beppu Station luggage options may suit the whole outing. Choose the bag’s location around where you actually need it next, especially if continuing to Yufuin.
Give Mount Tsurumi its own place in the day
The official ropeway facilities guide describes the ride between Beppu Kogen Station and Tsurumi Sanjo Station, around 1,300 metres above sea level. The upper area has viewpoints and paths; choose a route that suits the conditions and your walking plans.
Wear comfortable shoes and carry a layer for the mountain. Clear views depend on the weather, so check the day’s conditions before making the ascent your main plan. Mount Tsurumi is not Mount Yufu: the Yunotsubo Kaido and Lake Kinrin guide covers a different outing.
Choose the right bus from Beppu or Yufuin
The official ropeway access page lists access from Beppu Station’s west exit, the east-side Yufurin service via Kannawa, and Yufuin’s station-front bus centre. These are different routes; match the departure stop to the service you choose.
Use Kamenoi Bus’s current information for your date. Beppu Kogen is the ropeway’s lower station, not JR Beppu Station. Allow time between arriving by bus, settling a bag and joining the boarding queue.
Work backward from the descent and the stored bag
The ropeway’s operating-hours page separates the final ascent from the final descent and uses different seasonal hours. Weather or maintenance can stop operation. Check before traveling and again before beginning a longer mountain walk.
Leave time after descending to collect a bag and reach the correct onward bus. If your luggage stayed in Beppu, continuing directly to Yufuin will not retrieve it. The Yufuin town guide helps with the next part of the journey.
Questions before your visit
Does Beppu Ropeway have luggage storage?
Its operator-supervised visitor FAQ lists coin lockers and paid station holding for bags that do not fit. Check the actual arrangement and collection time before ascending.
Is Beppu Ropeway at JR Beppu Station?
No. Travel onward to the lower ropeway station; the official access page lists local bus routes.
Is this a Mount Yufu visit?
No. Beppu Ropeway climbs Mount Tsurumi. Yufuin and Mount Yufu are separate destinations.
Can Silk Crane hold a bag at the ropeway?
Silk Crane receives luggage sent into storage for later delivery. Send spare belongings from your hotel before this stage of the trip.
Send the extra suitcase and enjoy what comes next
Choose your Silk Crane storage plan, follow the sending instructions and ask your hotel front desk to help arrange shipment. Monthly and annual storage lets shopping and spare clothes skip the next journeys, with delivery arranged when you need them again. Shipping is charged separately.
Keep your documents, medicine and clothes for the coming days with you. Confirm that your later hotel can receive the suitcase and allow time for delivery. The extra case can stay out of the local sightseeing route.
