Takayama Old Town Luggage Storage: Enjoy the Morning Markets
Share
Enjoy Takayama’s Old Town and morning markets with your hands free to browse. With Silk Crane, send the extra suitcase from your hotel into monthly or annual storage and arrange delivery when you need it later. A small bag is easier to keep with you through this part of Japan. Shipping is charged separately.
A morning without a suitcase beside every doorway
Picture Takayama after shopping in a bigger city. The spare case is full, but its contents can wait until later in Japan. Send it from your hotel to Silk Crane before arriving, and keep the essentials for the next few days in a small bag.
Spend the morning browsing and take your time along the wooden shopfronts. There is no extra case to collect between the market and lunch. Arrange delivery to your later hotel ahead of time, allowing for shipping.

Leave today’s suitcase where collection makes sense
If you need the case again tonight, ask your accommodation about holding or use our Takayama Station locker guide. Returning to the station may fit an onward departure better than a city-center drop-off.
The Honmachi baggage counter’s operator page provides current information for the service at 1-2 Honmachi. Confirm the deadline directly; do not assume that sightseeing can continue until evening before collection.
Give the markets a morning slot
The official Takayama FAQ lists Jinya-mae from 07:00–12:00 in April–October and 08:00–12:00 in November–March. Miyagawa runs from 07:00–12:00 in April–November and 08:00–12:00 in December–March. November is the month when their listed opening times differ.
Plan the markets before lunch, allowing for weather and the stalls operating that day. Keep your small bag close when browsing and leave room for others to pass. The city’s morning-market guide helps choose the two stops.
The Jinya building is a separate visit
Jinya-mae market takes place outside Takayama Jinya. Going inside the historic government building is a separate admission, with its own schedule. The official Jinya visitor information lists 08:45–17:00 in April–October, with last admission at 16:30; November–March hours are 08:45–16:30, with last admission at 16:00.
Check closure notices for your date. Shoes are removed inside the historic buildings, so follow the entrance instructions and keep a bag for your footwear. Leave the large suitcase at your chosen holding point instead of assuming admission includes luggage storage.
Continue into Sanmachi at your own pace
The official Sanmachi guide introduces the preserved streets, timber latticework and local businesses. Pick a few places that interest you and follow their individual opening and entry arrangements.
Before adding another stop, check how much time remains for any luggage collection and your next departure. The Takayama city overview helps place the morning within the wider stay.
Send the spare suitcase and plan its return
Book storage, follow the sending instructions and ask your hotel front desk to help arrange the shipment. Keep medicine, documents and the belongings you need during shipping with you. Confirm that your later hotel can receive the case, then plan your storage and delivery dates.
Silk Crane receives shipped belongings for monthly or annual storage and later delivery. Shipping is charged separately; the storage and shipping cost guide explains the distinction. Arrange delivery in advance rather than expecting immediate collection at the station or attraction.
Questions before you go
Should I bring a large suitcase to the morning market?
A small bag is more comfortable for browsing. Arrange local holding for today’s case, or send spare belongings into storage before this part of the trip.
Are the morning markets and Old Town shops on one timetable?
No. Both markets finish at noon, while shops keep their own hours. In November, Miyagawa is listed from 07:00 and Jinya-mae from 08:00. The Jinya building also has its own admission schedule.
Is local bag collection available whenever I finish sightseeing?
Use the collection time confirmed by your hotel, locker or counter. Do not assume a city-center service stays open into the evening.
Can Silk Crane hold luggage while I visit several places?
Yes. Arrange shipment into storage and later delivery around the part of the itinerary when you will not need those belongings. Shipping is separate.
