Choose storage for your Shirakawa-Go trip
A village walk between two city stays
Imagine stopping in Shirakawa-go between Kanazawa and Takayama. Before leaving your Kanazawa hotel, you send the suitcase you will not need for this part of Japan to Silk Crane and keep a small overnight bag.
You can stroll the public lanes, stop for lunch and choose a house open to visitors without pulling a large case behind you. Arrange the stored suitcase’s delivery to the hotel where you will need it next, with enough time for shipping.

Day visitors and overnight guests need different plans
If you arrive by scheduled bus and leave later the same day, start with the Shirakawa-go Bus Terminal luggage guide. It explains the lockers and nearby holding service. The tourist association lists collection by 17:00; check the deadline where you deposit the case.
For an overnight stay, ask your accommodation whether it can hold bags before check-in or after checkout, and arrange the time directly. A reservation for a room does not by itself explain the host’s daytime availability.
Private-car and organized-tour arrivals have their own parking and luggage arrangements. Agree those with the operator or accommodation before exploring, rather than carrying a suitcase across the village in search of the scheduled-bus terminal.
Enjoy a living village at a comfortable pace
Ogimachi is a village where people live. Use public lanes and the marked entrances of places open to visitors, and respect private homes and fields. The tourist association’s visitor FAQ distinguishes walking around the village from paid admission to individual attractions.
Choose one or two house visits that interest you and check their current opening details. A small bag is easier to manage at entrances; follow each house’s instructions indoors rather than assuming the same bag rule everywhere.
For the viewpoint, check the current walking access or shuttle arrangements before starting uphill. Conditions and service times can change, especially in winter. Work back from your luggage collection and bus departure times, leaving room for the return to the village.
Shirakawa-go is a separate journey from Hida Folk Village in Takayama. Both offer distinctive traditional buildings, but the latter is an open-air museum near Takayama; do not use its opening hours or city-bus route for an Ogimachi visit.
Send the extra case and arrange its return
Book your storage plan and follow the sending instructions. Ask your hotel front desk to help arrange the shipment, or use a convenience store that accepts it or a Yamato service center. Keep documents, medicine and everything needed during shipping with you.
Silk Crane receives shipped belongings for monthly or annual storage and later delivery. Shipping is charged separately. Before sending, confirm that your later hotel can receive the case and plan your luggage delivery dates around Shirakawa-Go. The storage and shipping cost guide explains the separate charges.
Questions before you go
Where should I leave luggage for an Ogimachi day trip?
For scheduled-bus arrivals, check the terminal lockers or nearby holding service before walking into the village. Keep the collection deadline in your plan.
Can my accommodation hold a suitcase before check-in?
Ask the host directly about the time and arrangement. Small accommodations may not be available throughout the day.
Does a village walk require one admission ticket?
The public village walk and entry to individual houses or museums are different. Check opening hours and admission for each place you want to enter.
Can I fit the viewpoint in before the next bus?
Check current access, any shuttle timetable and the time needed to return and collect luggage. Skip the extra stop if it would make collection or boarding rushed.
Is Hida Folk Village the same place?
No. Hida Folk Village is an open-air museum near Takayama. Ogimachi is the Shirakawa-go village reached on a separate bus journey.
