Matsumoto luggage storage: send your extra suitcase from a convenience store and enjoy the castle paths.

4 Matsumoto Station Luggage Storage Options Compared

Give Matsumoto Castle and the streets around it more of your day. With Silk Crane, send your extra suitcase from your hotel front desk or a convenience store and arrange delivery when you need it later in Japan.

Monthly and annual storage are available, with shipping charged separately. For same-day collection, compare station lockers, bus-terminal lockers and holding at your hotel. This guide has four choices: Matsumoto’s tourism office says the station has no staffed luggage-storage facility, and hotel holding below is for guests.

A castle visit before several nights traveling light

Matsumoto luggage storage: send your extra suitcase from a convenience store and enjoy the castle paths.
Send the extra case and enjoy the paths around Matsumoto Castle.

Picture two friends checking out in Matsumoto. They have a castle visit planned before continuing through Japan, and a large suitcase of purchases that can wait for their final hotel.

They sign up for Silk Crane, pack what they need during shipping into small bags and send the extra case from a convenience store using the supplied instructions. There is no collection detour after the castle visit. Later, they arrange delivery to their final hotel with time to unpack and reorganize before the flight home. A hotel front desk can also be a convenient place to send.

Send before checkout or while you are out

Picture setting aside the suitcase you will not need for the next part of the trip. Send it from your hotel front desk before checkout, or from a convenience store while you are out. Sign up for Silk Crane, use the supplied sending instructions and keep your essentials during shipping. Arrange delivery to your later hotel in Japan.

1. Silk Crane: send the bag and arrange later delivery

Choose Silk Crane when your extra luggage can skip part of the journey. Send from your hotel front desk or a convenience store, keep a smaller bag and arrange delivery when you want the stored belongings again. There is no trip to a Silk Crane storage location or return to the same locker.

Cost: a monthly or annual plan, plus separate shipping. Compare the current storage plans together with sending and return-delivery costs. Silk Crane has no walk-in counter at Matsumoto Station and does not provide immediate retrieval or same-day local holding.

Sign up before sending and follow the supplied instructions. Keep documents, medicine and everything needed during shipping with you. The hotel and airport delivery guide explains how to plan the return. If you simply need the suitcase at your next hotel soon, direct forwarding may be the simpler choice.

2. Station lockers: choose by floor and exit

The Matsumoto tourism FAQ lists six station locker locations: around the 3F welcome center and waiting area, the 2F Castle Exit side, and the 1F Castle and Alps exits. It explicitly says there is no staffed luggage-storage facility at Matsumoto Station.

Use JR East’s Matsumoto Station layout and the posted bank information to check size, price and collection access. Castle Exit and Alps Exit are different sides. Choose the one that fits your return route, and leave time to reach the platform after retrieving the case.

3. Bus-terminal lockers: use the boarding-area prices

ALPICO PLAZA’s locker directory separates its locker banks. The 1F bus-boarding-area bank costs ¥300 small, ¥500 medium or ¥700 large, with access 04:30–22:30.

Walk to Matsumoto Bus Terminal at ALPICO PLAZA — about 4 minutes / 270 m from Matsumoto Station’s map reference point. The address is 1-2-30 Fukashi. Follow signs to the bus boarding area rather than assuming every locker inside the building has these prices.

A May 2026 price revision affected the separate front-stair bank; the operator says boarding-area rates were unchanged. Read your selected locker’s charging period and maximum stay before paying, and leave collection time before boarding.

4. Ace Inn: guest holding on arrival or departure day

Staying at Ace Inn Matsumoto, 1-1-3 Fukashi? Its official guest FAQ says belongings can be held on check-in and checkout days. Ask the hotel about the collection arrangement and any charge for your booking.

Walk to Ace Inn Matsumoto — about 3 minutes / 210 m from Matsumoto Station’s map reference point. This is a guest service, not a public luggage counter. It can avoid paying for a locker when the hotel agrees to your arrangement. If you are staying elsewhere, ask your own front desk rather than carrying a case here.

A nearby place to send your suitcase

Your hotel front desk may save a walk altogether. Already out with the case? Yamato’s directory lists this nearby branch as accepting shipments. It is a sending point, not a Silk Crane storage branch.

7-Eleven Matsumoto Ekimae

1-2-25 Chuo

Walking directions to 7-Eleven Matsumoto Ekimae — about 2 minutes / 160 m from Matsumoto Station’s map reference point.

Yamato store listing

This station-front branch lists 24-hour opening and Yamato shipment service. Check the Chuo address in the directions; similarly named stores elsewhere are not this branch. Convenience-store shipment listings exclude Size 180 and 200 parcels. Confirm the dispatch cutoff; 24-hour opening does not mean every bag leaves that day.

Walking estimates were checked October 5, 2026, from the map starting point named beside each link. Allow extra time for platforms, indoor navigation, stairs, queues and the handoff. These are useful examples, not a claim that they are the nearest stores.

Questions before choosing

Why are there four options rather than five?

The useful choices around the station serve different needs. Matsumoto tourism says the station has no staffed holding facility, and the hotel service is limited to guests. Adding an unverified counter would not help you plan.

Can I leave a case while visiting Matsumoto Castle?

A station locker, bus-terminal locker or agreed hotel holding arrangement can suit a same-day visit. If you are continuing elsewhere without returning for the bag, compare Silk Crane storage and later delivery, allowing for shipping time.
