Two travelers send a green suitcase from a convenience store, then walk beside Kobe's harbor with small bags.

5 Kobe-Sannomiya Luggage Storage Options Compared

Make time for Kobe’s harbor, a good lunch and the next part of Japan. With Silk Crane, send your extra suitcase from your hotel front desk or a convenience store and arrange delivery to a later stop.

Monthly and annual storage are available, with shipping charged separately. If you need the case after today’s visit, compare TabiSapo and JR, subway or Port Liner lockers. Around Sannomiya, the railway name and exit are more useful than simply choosing the closest-looking pin.

Send the extra suitcase and enjoy a walk beside Kobe’s harbor.

Imagine two friends checking out in Kobe before several nights elsewhere in Japan. Their large suitcase contains shopping they want to take home, but do not need for the next hotels. They are already near Sannomiya, ready for a harbor walk.

Sign up for Silk Crane and send the packed suitcase from a convenience store using the supplied instructions. Keep what you need during shipping in your smaller bags. Walk toward the waterfront, enjoy lunch and continue the trip without returning for that case. Arrange delivery to your later hotel with time to receive it and repack before departure.

Send before checkout or while you are out

Picture setting aside the suitcase you will not need for the next part of the trip. Send it from your hotel front desk before checkout, or from a convenience store while you are out. 1. Silk Crane: send the bag and arrange later delivery

Choose Silk Crane when your extra luggage can skip part of the journey. Send from your hotel front desk or a convenience store, keep a smaller bag and arrange delivery when you want the stored belongings again. There is no trip to a Silk Crane storage location or return to the same locker.

Cost: a monthly or annual plan, plus separate shipping. Compare the current storage plans together with sending and return-delivery costs. Silk Crane has no walk-in counter at Kobe-Sannomiya and does not provide immediate retrieval or same-day local holding.

Sign up before sending and follow the supplied instructions. Keep documents, medicine and everything needed during shipping with you. The hotel and airport delivery guide explains how to plan the return. If you simply need the suitcase at your next hotel soon, direct forwarding may be the simpler choice.

2. TabiSapo: a counter near the west side

TabiSapo’s luggage holding and access guide gives the address 1-30-15 Kitanagasadori. Small-bag holding starts at ¥400; ask for the current charge for your suitcase and dates.

Walking directions to TabiSapo — about 3 minutes / 220 m from JR Sannomiya Station. The operator describes a shorter approach from JR’s West Exit. Its luggage terms say no retrieval between 19:00 and 09:00, so plan collection before 19:00 even though other parts of its website show later contact hours.

3. JR Sannomiya lockers: keep the bag with a JR return

JR West’s Sannomiya station guide confirms coin lockers and links to the station layout. Choose a bank around your JR arrival and departure, checking its gate side and posted price.

This can suit a Kobe day trip when you will return along the JR Kobe Line. Save the exact bank and exit; JR uses the station name Sannomiya, while nearby private railways use Kobe-Sannomiya. Similar names do not make the storage locations interchangeable.

4. Subway Sannomiya lockers: east and west concourses

The Kobe subway Sannomiya facilities guide lists lockers on both the east and west sides, with the gates on B1. Use its layout to choose the approach that fits your onward journey.

These lockers can be useful when the next leg takes you toward Shin-Kobe. Check dimensions, price and collection conditions at the bank. Sannomiya is not the Shinkansen station itself, so allow for collection and the onward transfer before a reserved departure.

5. Port Liner lockers: plan around Kobe Airport

The Port Liner Sannomiya station guide distinguishes inside-gate and outside-gate lockers. Those are separate choices even within the same railway station.

A Port Liner locker can fit a Kobe outing followed by travel to Kobe Airport. Use the operator’s floor plan and check the selected bank’s current fee, size and access rules. If your day starts on JR, consider an outside-gate bank so the collection arrangement is clear before you enter the Port Liner paid area.

Questions before choosing

Does a Sannomiya locker suit a visit to the harbor?

It can, if you are returning through the same station and the bank fits your bag and timing. If your day ends elsewhere, include the walk or ride back for collection when comparing it with another location.

Is Silk Crane a walk-in storage counter in Kobe?

No. Send your luggage into storage and arrange later delivery. There is no trip to a Silk Crane storage branch. For a bag needed again after today’s lunch or harbor walk, compare the local counters and lockers above.
