A week of small inns without the full-size suitcase
Picture a longer Japan holiday with a week set aside for small inns and hot-spring towns. Your full-size suitcase also holds shopping and clothes for the city stays, but a small overnight bag is enough for this stretch.
Send the large suitcase to storage before leaving the city. Enjoy the inn stays with less to move, then have it delivered to your later Tokyo hotel after arranging the return ahead of time. If you were simply changing from one hotel to the next and needed everything there, direct forwarding would be the simpler fit.
Forward when you need the bag at the next stop
Ordinary domestic forwarding is useful when you know the destination, someone there can receive the bag, and the carrier’s delivery schedule fits your stay. The suitcase travels from the sending point to that receiving point.
For example, send your suitcase from Tokyo to your Kyoto hotel when you will need it during that stay. Ask the receiving hotel about accepting it and use the delivery date quoted by the carrier; forwarding does not automatically mean same-day arrival.
