A riverside stroll with only the Hakone bag
Imagine spending several nights in Hakone between longer city stays. Before leaving the first hotel, you sign up for Silk Crane and send the spare suitcase using the supplied instructions. Your small bag holds the clothing and essentials needed for Hakone and during shipping.
At Hakone-Yumoto, you can head for a riverside walk without hunting for a large locker. Arrange delivery of the stored suitcase to the next city hotel in advance. If you want that suitcase at your Hakone hotel this afternoon, compare the local hotel-delivery option below.

This is Silk Crane’s comparison, not an independent ranking. Prices are in yen. Compare the full cost, location and collection plan, rather than treating monthly storage and a few hours in a locker as the same service.
| Option | Price basis | Collection | Good fit |
|---|---|---|---|
| Silk Crane: send into storage for later delivery | Monthly or annual plan + separate shipping | Later delivery in Japan | Belongings that can skip part of the trip |
| Station coin lockers | Posted by compartment | Same bank; check access and charging period | A bag needed back at the station |
| Odakyu Travel Center holding | Ask for the current item charge | Accept 09:00–17:30; collect by 18:00 | Staff holding near the ticket gate |
| Hakone hotel luggage transport — a forwarding alternative | Regular ¥1,500; large ¥2,500 one way | Station acceptance 08:30–12:00; hotel collection after 15:00 | A suitcase needed at your Hakone hotel tonight |
1. Silk Crane: send into storage for later delivery
Send your suitcase from your hotel front desk or a convenience store, keep a smaller bag and arrange delivery when you want the stored belongings again. There is no trip to a Silk Crane storefront or return to the same locker.
Choose a monthly or annual storage plan for your Hakone-Yumoto itinerary; shipping is charged separately. Sign up before sending and follow the supplied instructions. Silk Crane has no walk-in counter at Hakone-Yumoto and does not offer immediate retrieval.
Keep documents, medicine and what you need during shipping with you. Arrange delivery to your later hotel or departure airport in Japan in advance. If the bag is needed today, use local holding. If it is simply going straight to the next hotel, direct forwarding may suit better.
2. Station coin lockers
Hakone-Yumoto’s official station map identifies locker locations and the station’s floor arrangement. Find the bank before starting your walk, check its dimensions and photograph the return route.
Read the current price and access hours at the locker. The map is useful for orientation, but it does not guarantee a free large compartment on a busy arrival day.
3. Odakyu Travel Center holding
Odakyu’s Hakone-Yumoto luggage service is beside the 2F ticket-gate area; the station guide places the center to your right after exiting. Luggage acceptance is 09:00–17:30, with collection by 18:00 and identification required.
The travel center’s general opening extends to 19:00, but that is not the luggage collection deadline. Ask the desk for today’s price and keep the receipt. For five or more bags, the operator asks for advance contact by 15:00 the previous day.
4. Hakone hotel luggage transport — a forwarding alternative
Hakone’s hotel luggage transport service and hotel list is same-day forwarding, not a storage locker. Send from Hakone-Yumoto Station 08:30–12:00 and collect at a hotel on its service list after 15:00.
The regular one-way charge is ¥1,500 for a bag up to 140 cm combined dimensions and 15 kg. The large category is ¥2,500, up to 200 cm and 30 kg. For the return journey, hand over at the hotel by 10:00 and collect at the station 13:30–18:30. Check that your hotel is on the list before relying on this route.
Where to send your luggage
Send an ordinary suitcase from your hotel front desk or a convenience store after booking Silk Crane. Hakone’s official hands-free travel guide includes local sending information and the Yamato Hakone-Yumoto center. Use Yamato’s current Hakone-Yumoto branch finder to check the shipping location and hours before carrying a bag there.
A 180- or 200-size parcel needs a carrier counter or hotel pickup instead of a convenience store. For skis or snowboards, arrange the shipment through your hotel or a carrier counter. Storage for a later Japan stop and the local same-day hotel service solve different parts of the trip.
A convenience-store handoff while you are out
Imagine sending the spare suitcase from a convenience store before exploring Hakone-Yumoto’s shopping street. After signing up for Silk Crane, use the supplied instructions, keep what you need during shipping and arrange later delivery in Japan. You can enjoy the next part of the trip with small bags.

Questions before choosing
Can I collect at Odakyu until 19:00?
No. Its published luggage collection deadline is 18:00, even though the travel center’s general hours extend to 19:00.
Is the Hakone hotel-delivery service long-term storage?
No. It forwards bags between the station and hotels on its service list. Silk Crane is a separate shipped-storage service for belongings you want delivered later in Japan.
