The seven Hells are not one compact walking circuit
The official Oita guide to the Beppu Hells separates five Hells in Kannawa from Chinoike Jigoku and Tatsumaki Jigoku in the Shibaseki area. Visiting both groups requires another journey, so plan the transport alongside the sightseeing.
Check the Hells operator’s current visitor information before buying tickets or setting your schedule. Leave time for the places you actually want to see rather than assuming every stop will fit before the next train.
