5 Asahikawa Station Luggage Storage Options Compared
Share
Take a smaller bag from Asahikawa into the Hokkaido countryside. With Silk Crane, send the extra suitcase from your hotel front desk or a convenience store and arrange delivery when you want it again in Japan.
Monthly and annual storage are available, with shipping charged separately. If you are returning to Asahikawa for the case after today’s outing, compare station lockers, the tourist-information center, Yamato at AEON and JR Inn guest holding. The station, mall and hotel are close together, but their desks are on different floors.

A riverside pause before the countryside

Picture a couple stopping in Asahikawa before several days around Biei and Furano. Their spare suitcase holds shopping for the final part of the holiday. They sign up for Silk Crane and send it from their hotel front desk using the supplied instructions.
With documents, medicine and everything needed during shipping in their smaller bags, they can enjoy a riverside walk before continuing. They arrange the stored case’s delivery to their later hotel ahead of time. A same-day outing that ends back at Asahikawa calls for a different plan: leave the case locally and collect it before the onward train.
A convenience-store stop, then a lighter day
Already out with a suitcase you will not need for the next part of the trip? Picture sending it from a convenience store, then carrying on with a small bag. Sign up for Silk Crane, follow the supplied sending instructions, keep your essentials during shipping and arrange delivery to a later hotel in Japan.

1. Silk Crane: send the bag and arrange later delivery
Choose Silk Crane when your extra luggage can skip part of the journey. Send from your hotel front desk or a convenience store, keep a smaller bag and arrange delivery when you want the stored belongings again. There is no trip to a Silk Crane storage location or return to the same locker.
Cost: a monthly or annual plan, plus separate shipping. Compare the current storage plans together with sending and return-delivery costs. Silk Crane has no walk-in counter at Asahikawa Station and does not provide immediate retrieval or same-day local holding.
Sign up before sending and follow the supplied instructions. Keep documents, medicine and everything needed during shipping with you. The hotel and airport delivery guide explains how to plan the return. If you simply need the suitcase at your next hotel soon, direct forwarding may be the simpler choice.
2. JR lockers: keep the collection route simple
JR Hokkaido’s locker directory lists Asahikawa charges of ¥400 small, ¥500 medium and ¥700 large. The normal limit is three days including deposit day. Check the selected bank’s current rules and compartment dimensions.
Save the locker number and surrounding signs before leaving. Keep the receipt or payment card ready for collection, and leave time to reach your train after retrieving the case.
A locker can work well when your outing ends back at the station. Choose one whose compartment fits without forcing the case, and check access before committing to a late return from the countryside.
3. Tourist information: a staffed station alternative
The Asahikawa tourist-information center’s official guide confirms large-luggage holding in the station’s east concourse. Opening is 08:30–19:00 June–September and 09:00–19:00 October–May; the center closes December 31–January 2.
Ask for the current holding charge, last acceptance and collection arrangement. This can be a useful first stop when you also want advice about a local outing. The office’s opening hours do not establish an overnight storage service.
4. Yamato at AEON: a later collection deadline
The AEON Mall Asahikawa Station Yamato listing places the counter on 2F, shop 209, open 10:00–21:00. Yamato’s current baggage-storage list gives ¥1,000 per item with same-day collection by 21:00.
Use Yamato’s AEON Mall Asahikawa map pin for the building at 7-2-5 Miyashitadori, then follow the mall signs to 2F. Allow time to reach the desk before closing rather than treating 21:00 as the time to arrive outside the mall.
5. JR Inn Asahikawa: holding around your stay
JR Inn Asahikawa’s guest FAQ allows holding on check-in and checkout days only. Ask the hotel about your bags and collection time. The reception is on 5F, not at the mall’s Yamato counter.
Follow the hotel’s station and mall access guide to the hotel entrance. For guests, this may save paying for another service. Travelers staying elsewhere should use a public locker or counter rather than assuming the hotel accepts non-guest luggage.
A mall counter that also handles shipping
Send from your hotel front desk or a convenience store when that fits your route. If the suitcase is already with you near Asahikawa Station, the AEON Yamato counter’s service guide also lists parcel shipping.
Sign up for Silk Crane first and use the supplied details. Tell staff you want to send the case rather than leave it for local collection, and ask about the dispatch cutoff and shipping charge. The mall counter is an independent sending point; Silk Crane storage and later delivery are arranged through your plan.
Questions before choosing
Can I leave luggage at the tourist-information center over New Year?
The center lists closure from December 31 through January 2. Arrange another option and check holiday schedules before traveling; ordinary published hours should not be assumed during that closure.
Which Asahikawa option suits a longer journey through Japan?
Silk Crane suits belongings you can send ahead into storage and have delivered later. If you need the case immediately after an Asahikawa outing, compare the local choices and their collection times instead.
